Anyway as per usual the band did not disappoint. They wasted no time opening up with LIT UP and playing selections both new and old. If you haven't heard the new album Confessions I recommend checking it out. And if you're a fan of dirty, sleazy, trashy, good time rock don't miss these guys next time they come to your town.
When I got the call to shoot Buckcherry again I was so excited. What a kick ass rock n roll band, so charismatic and everybody in the group looks good in pictures. Plus they were playing the Grove of Anaheim one of my favorite venues to shoot at. Good lighting, big production values, they just know how to put on a professional show there. Burgerama 2014 was a BLAST. Tons of great bands playing at The Observatory on 3 stages for 2 days straight....FUN! NO BUNNY: Stole the show. They packed (and I mean PACKED) The Observatory for their set. People were shoulder to shoulder for the Bunny's sweaty take on garage rock. Plus the dude has balls the size of church bells to wear this outfit on stage, and HE PULLED THE LOOK OFF. Hats off Mr. Bunnyman. Other great sets we saw; The Allah-Lahs: This really talented band proved that they could be a major break out act . They have the songs and seemed really comfortable on stage playing to a packed house of several thousand people. Plus judging from all the screaming in the audience the chicks dig 'em. The Cosmonauts: Trippy psych rock ala JAMC very good stuff. The Muffs: Kim Shattuck is back and in full force with The Muffs, The Pixies loss is our gain. Look for a new album in the near future. Cherry Glazerr: Up and coming LA band played a nice set. SLEEP: Sludge monsters proved that some bands should leave their shirts on.....Please. Death: Looking cool as shit in purple satin jackets and bringing high energy rock n roll from Detroit Rock City! Here's a slide show of some of what was happening over the weekend. I have a feeling that next year Burgerama may turn into a major outdoor festival somewhere in the OC. I shot the first show of the 2014 Skinny Puppy tour at The Observatory in Orange County. The bands management was kind enough to have me shoot this one at The Mayan in Los Angeles too. It was the last show of the tour and it turned out to be a very special evening as the band brought out several of their very earliest numbers like "Smothered Hope" and "Glass Houses" for the encore. Did I say encore? I meant encores! The audience was treated to three of them and the band played for over two hours. What a great night but a tough photo shoot for us photographers, let's just say the lighting was challenging, but the results were well worth it. As was all the stage blood Ogre managed to drip on me when I was up in the pit taking pictures! Not the first time I've come out of the pit a bloody mess and probably not the last either. |
