Wow! this was a fun & special evening!
It's not everyday that you get to see a world renowned rock star and some of his friends get together to play some of their favorite songs just for the sheer fun of it. But that is exactly what happened this evening during an intimate show at The Coach House In San Juan Capistrano. Robin Zander is the lead vocalist for Cheap Trick and is in SoCal touring with them as I write this.
But it seems the guy just wants to hang with his friends and cut loose on some rock n roll classics every once in a while. This evening Zander and company played selections from The Faces, Small Faces, Harry Nilsson, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Cream and of course a handful of Cheap Trick classics. Here is a guy who was up on stage singing his heart out simply because he loves rock n' roll... and he was kind enough to share the evening with us.
It was such a cool low key event that during an extended jam by his band he even left the stage and hung out with fans over beers at the bar, happily signing autographs and posing for pictures. Like I said it was a special evening and one to remember for a long time.
The lighting was pretty static at this show but I'm still pretty happy with some of these shots. It helps that Mr. Zander looks every inch the rock star, I just wish everyone I know could have been at the show with me.
