The Constellation Room
Santa Ana, California
Electric Six March 13, 2015 The Constellation Room Santa Ana, California Electric Six motored in from Detroit to play another great set, these guys are ALWAYS good. I've seen them at least 10times over the years and they have never given anything less than 100%. E6 are road dogs, it seems they are always playing somewhere in the world on any given night. I'm happy to report that the constant touring E6 does seems to be paying off as the room was packed this evening. The band rose to the occasion and played all their classics to their happy and drunken fans. I witnessed rampant acts of improper dancing all over the venue........

Uriah Heep 12 March, 2015 The Coach House, San Juan Capistrano, California Nice to see Uriah Heep in concert again, it's been a few years since they graced SoCal with a show. Happy to report the band was firing on all cylinders and very much NOT a nostalgia act as they played no fewer than 5 songs from their excellent new album "Outsider". Of course the old favorites like "Easy Livin" and Stealin sounded great but perhaps the highlight of the night was a 10 minute version the Wizard! The Dreaming Constellation Room, Santa Ana, California March 4, 2015 The Dreaming are an LA based band featuring former members of Stabbing Westward. They played a great set this evening highlighting their knack for adding monster hooks to their industrial tinged music. They brought along a great light show, but for photography purposes it was DARK. I decided to shoot these with a 70-200mm / 2.8 lens because the band was very photogenic and I like the way this lens handles portraits. Flight Facilities The Observatory, Santa Ana, California February 27, 2015 Australian dance outfit Flight Facilities played a sold out set at The Observatory, They worked the crowd up into a frenzy mostly due to the excellent job vocalist Owl Eyes did at connecting with the crowd. The photo pit was jammed, so you really couldn't move into different spots but fortunately all the vocalists worked the stage giving lots of good photo ops. Cage The Elephant The Observatory, Santa Ana, California 4 February, 2015 Headcat 21 January, 2015 The Coach House, San Juan Capistrano, California Great show tonight by Lemmy Kilmister, Danny B. Harvey & Slim Jim Phantom! Nothing but classic 50's & 60's rock n roll was played this evening. But The Headcat gave the music a tough edge thanks to Danny Harvey's searing electric guitar; A growling bottom end courtesy of Lemmy's bass and some swing via Slim Jim's drums. Smiles all around on the faces of the happy punters leaving The Coach House tonight, myself included. Ian Hunter & The Rant Band January 11, 2015 The Coach House, San Juan Capistrano, California Ian Hunter graced a sold out crowd at the Coach House with a blistering two hour set featuring classics ranging from his Mott The Hoople era hits to his latest album When I'm President. And the thing about Ian Hunter is he's such a consistently great writer that songs that were written 40 years apart fit together seamlessly. The Coach House is a notoriously tough spot to shoot concert photos, no pit, marginal lighting and very difficult to maneuver into a good spot to capture the action. But I wasn't worried about that this evening, I was just happy to be in the presence of one of rock n roll's greatest tune-smiths, backed up by a GREAT band playing a deep selection of his work. I enjoyed every minute of the concert. Hope you were there, if not don't miss the show next time Ian & The Rant Band hit the boards in your area. Skinny Puppy The Fox Theater, Pomona, California 20 December, 2014 This was the third time this year Skinny Puppy played in SoCal and I have been fortunate to be asked to shoot all three shows. This was the last date of the current tour, and with Front Line Assembly opening the show it was a banner day for industrial music fans. Now Skippy Puppy will make a photographer work for a good shot, dark stage, minimal lighting etc. But the results are always worth it, and their lighting director seems to know how to cast just the right light for a good picture. As with every SP show lead singer Ogre seems to enjoy spitting stage blood on the photographers in the the pit. And tonight as a special treat he decided to spit chewed up dog food at us (don't freak, I'm sure it was vegan ) Anyway if you can't handle this kind of thing you have no business being in the pit at a SP show because it seems to happen every time. Bon Appetite. FLA The Fox Theater, Pomona, California 20 December, 2014 I was really looking forward to shooting this concert. Two legendary industrial bands that share an incestuous history. Together again on the same stage after many years. What's not to like! FLA hit the stage with a vengeance, because when you're the opening act for Skinny Puppy, well you better bring it. FLA played a good set, but I think their ability to connect with the audience was somewhat hampered by the atrocious stage lighting they chose to use. Mostly they played in the dark, using the occasional bit of back lighting. I mostly tried to grab a shot when an infrequent strobe went off of between songs. They sounded great, but visually, not so much. A highlight of the set for me was meeting Wes Marsala, another local photographer whose work I admire. Super nice guy, and super talented as well.
